Gen 5:3 – “And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
Gen 5:27 – “And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Gen 9:29 – “And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

Many people the world over are trying to find ways to live longer, healthier lives. When we consider the Scripture of truth we must ask ourselves, “to what profit is a longer life?” There was a time early on in man’s history where people lived for hundreds of years at a time, having their life filled with strength and vitality unsurpassed to this present day. But what did God say about the men who lived in those days who had all of this time on their hands?

Gen 6:5 – “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6 – “And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

With all the life that God gave to them, mankind abused it. The human race chose the pathway of sin and the way of wickedness so much so that God repented that He had ever made man in the first place. After the Flood was brought in upon the world of the ungodly, the LORD chose to repopulate the earth with Noah and his family. As a kindness, God shortened the life of mankind that they might see their frailty a bit sooner.

Ps 90:12 – “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

People want to attribute long life and health to exercise or a good diet, but those things ultimately will not prevent death. Even an all natural diet may contribute to the overall “feel good” part of health, but the ground has been cursed since Genesis 3, and will not yield a permanent effect. The wages of sin is death, and that has not changed for the past 6,000 years. Sin by nature will kill. God will at times intervene in certain situations in life for specific judgments, but in the general sense, God does not have to do anything, because sin by its nature will destroy mankind. Poison ivy by nature makes you itch, and poisonous mushrooms by nature will kill you if eaten; so sin by its nature will kill the whole human race when messed with.

Sin has a natural course; it is the thing that takes the slightly perverted and turns him into a pervert; it is what turns those who lust into adulterers and fornicators; it is that which burns out and destroys with disease those who subscribe to a licentious, hedonistic lifestyle. No matter how long a man can muster to stay alive, sin will ultimately overtake him to the undertaker.

That is what makes the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ such good news! That God has made a way to cleanse us from all sin through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ! By abandoning self-righteousness and self service through that which does not profit, God will give to mankind, for free, His righteousness by faith. That free gift gives mankind eternal, everlasting life, and upon departure from this world they will enter into a world without end. Amen!
